KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY
Bringing hope and community inside prison walls

Kairos Prison Ministry is an international Christian ministry that shares God’s love with men and women living in prison. Through a three-day Kairos Weekend and ongoing support, participants experience encouragement, authentic community, and the reminder that they are not forgotten.
At Lake Highlands UMC, we have supported Kairos for many years by serving, giving, and praying for these transformative weekends.
WHAT IS A KAIROS WEEKEND?
A Kairos Weekend is a three-day experience held inside the prison, where participants step away from their daily routine to engage in meaningful conversations, hear messages of hope, and build relationships grounded in faith.
These weekends typically take place twice a year (spring and fall), with ongoing gatherings and support continuing in between.
Volunteers lead the weekend and return regularly afterward for continued connection, creating lasting community beyond the initial experience.
WHY IT MATTERS
For many participants, this weekend is the first time in years they have experienced:
-
Being truly seen and heard
-
Encouragement from others
-
A sense of belonging and hope
Kairos creates space for transformation, reminding each person that they are deeply loved by God.
WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
You don’t have to go inside the prison to make a meaningful impact. There are several simple ways to support this ministry:
Give
-
Sponsor a meal — $5
-
Sponsor a participant — $175
(helps provide meals, supplies, and the full weekend experience)
Donations can be made by cash or check payable to Kairos Prison Ministry.
Bake Cookies
Homemade cookies are shared during Kairos Weekends as a simple but powerful act of encouragement and hospitality. Opportunities to bake and donate cookies are announced throughout the year.
Pray
Prayer is at the heart of Kairos. You are invited to add your first name and city to a prayer chain that is displayed during the weekend as a visible reminder that each participant is being lifted up in prayer.
