WAYS TO SERVE

We’d love to help you find your place to serve at Lake Highlands UMC. Whether you enjoy meeting new people, working behind the scenes, singing or playing an instrument, caring for kids and youth, or serving our neighbors, there’s a spot for you.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

SERVE ON SUNDAYS: GREETERS, USHERS, AND LITURGISTS NEEDED

We’re building our 2026 schedule for greeters, ushers, and liturgists at both the 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. services. These roles help make worship feel warm, organized, and easy to follow. If you can smile, offer a bulletin, guide someone to a seat, or read aloud, you’re qualified. No experience needed — we’ll make sure you feel comfortable. You can serve once a month or jump in more often; choose the dates that work for you at our Sunday services.

Questions? Reach out to Gretel Roberts, Director of Spiritual Formation & Hospitality, at gretel@lhumc.com.

VOLUNTEER IN CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL

Our Children’s Ministry is looking for a few caring adults to help make Sunday mornings safe, welcoming, and meaningful for our kids. Whether you prefer to support behind the scenes or lead a small group, there’s a role that fits your availability and comfort level.

Be an Extra Set of Eyes

Help keep classrooms running smoothly during Sunday School by being present, attentive, and supportive. No teaching or preparation required—just your presence and care. Serving even once in a while makes a big difference.

Lead a Children’s Small Group

Leading a small group is simple and impactful. You’ll guide a brief discussion using questions we provide, then close with prayer—no prep needed. A commitment of just 2–3 Sundays per semester helps create consistency and community for our kids.

Questions? Contact Stephanie Campoverde, Director of Children & Family Ministries, at children@lhumc.com.

DONATE TO THE FEED LAKE HIGHLANDS FOOD PANTRY

Our partners at Feed Lake Highlands continue to serve families facing food insecurity, and community support is especially important during the holidays. Your donations help provide stability and hope for our neighbors.

Drop off food in the buckets in the Narthex anytime or at Feed Lake Highlands (10061 Whitehurst Drive) on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Most needed items include cereal, green beans, canned tuna or chicken, mac & cheese, canned beans, pasta sauce (no glass jars), rice, and canned pasta in sauce.

SUPPORT LOCAL FAMILIES WITH BABY ESSENTIALS

Seeds of Support is a ministry of LHUMC and serves families in our community who are navigating financial and educational barriers. Our goal is to meet immediate needs while empowering families through learning opportunities, connection, and care.

Through Seeds of Support, families receive diapers, baby wipes, and essential baby supplies, along with access to classes and workshops that support long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

We are currently collecting diapers in all sizes (small packs of 20–25 preferred), with the greatest need for sizes 5, 6, and 7, along with overnight pull-ups for older children, baby wipes, and other essential baby supplies. Please drop off items at Entrance D. Your generosity helps ensure families feel supported, seen, and equipped to move forward.

Seeds of Support is also seeking childcare volunteers on Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon to care for children while parents are in classes. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, contact Lili Rodriguez, Lead of Seeds of Support, at sos@lhumc.com.

VOLUNTEER AT VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (JUNE 8–11)

Vacation Bible School is one of the most meaningful weeks of the year for our kids, and we’re building our 2026 team now.

This year’s theme is Snowball Mountain Challenge, and we’re looking for VBS Shepherds to guide Pre-K/K and Elementary groups as they rotate through recreation, discovery, crafts, and reflection. Shepherds travel with their group throughout the morning, helping create a safe, joyful environment where children can grow in faith and friendship.

Volunteer Commitment

  • Monday–Thursday, June 8–11 | 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m.

  • One VBS Work Week prep shift (May 26–27 or June 1–4)

  • Volunteer Training: Sunday, June 7 | 6–8 p.m. (Dinner provided. Childcare available by reservation.)

You may request a specific grade level, though placement cannot be guaranteed. If you’re not available all four days, consider serving as a floater and note which days you’re available.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, college student, or simply someone who loves investing in children, this is a powerful way to serve.
