What is the Prayer Blanket Ministry?
The purpose of the United Methodist Women's Prayer Blanket ministry is to provide a tangible expression of prayers to those who have a special need to feel the love of God and our congregation. They may be those facing surgery, suffering a serious illness or
infirmity or perhaps coping with the loss of a loved one. It offers a way to touch a prayer, to pull it close and feel its comfort. Blankets of camouflage fleece are also available for those currently on active duty in our Armed Forces.
How Does This Work?
After a request is made, a blanket will be created for the individual, labeled with their name, fringed and embroidered with the Methodist Cross & Flame. It will then be placed either in the Sanctuary narthex or in the Great Hall. Members of the congregation are asked to stop before or after services to tie a knot in the fringe as they offer a prayer. The person requesting the blanket will then take the blanket to the recipient. Family, visitors and the recipient can also add knots to the blanket while saying a prayer. Prayer blankets provide a constant and tangible reminder that the entire congregation and their family and friends are thinking of them and praying for them.
Who Can Request a Blanket?
Anyone, but because we want to respect the person's privacy, we do request that you ask the person who is to receive the blanket if they would like to have our gift of prayer. Also ask them what they would like us to pray for and what information may or may not be shared.How Can You Help?
