BSA Troup 890

Lake Highlands United Methodist Church sponsors Boy Scout Troop 890, a troop with more than 100 boys that has been active in the community for more than 45 years. Troop 890 produces an exceptionally high number of Eagle Scouts, far exceeding the national average of young men who advance to Scouting’s highest rank.

Boys from the end of fifth grade through age 18 participate in BSA rank advancements, merit badge classes, service projects, fund-raisers and monthly campouts. High adventure treks are scheduled throughout the year and have included backpacking trips to the Rocky Mountains, Grand Canyon, Alaska and Philmont Scout Ranch; canoeing in Minnesota’s boundary waters; a Deep Winter campout in which participants build and sleep in snow domes, backpacking with snowshoes; and sailing in the British Virgin Islands.

Meetings are held at the church at 7:00 p.m. Mondays during the school year (except during Christmas break). Troop 890 Scouts attend summer camp at Camp Constantin, on Possum Kingdom Lake, in June each year.
