Our History
It was at the intersection of Plano and McCree Roads that the Methodist Board of Church Extension bought 5.7 acres of land on February 10th, 1955, envisioning a new church in a new residential area.
The Rev. Kenneth B. McIntosh was instructed to find a congregation, a temporary meeting place and a home for his family. The first worship service with 12 people was held January 22nd, 1956 at the home of Arthur B. Weatherread. Only two weeks later, this number quickly jumped to 130 persons attending service held at Victor Hexter Grade School; 29 became members and 4 were baptized. The sermon title, as listed in the first church bulletin, was “We Limit God”.
Fifty two years after the first sermon at LHUMC our mission is be “People of Faith, Loving God, Serving God and Sharing God with our community and around the world through all of our ministries.
